What is Gestational Surrogacy?

Gestational Surrogacy is an option for women with viable eggs, but who don’t have a normal uterus or can’t carry a baby for other medical reasons. A woman’s eggs are removed (or, if the woman doesn’t have viable eggs a donor egg can be utilized), fertilized with the male’s sperm and the embryos are transferred into a surrogate mother’s uterus. The Gestational Surrogate serves as the "carrier" of the embryo and resulting pregnancy and shares no DNA with the child.

What a Gestational Surrogate means to someone who can’t carry their own pregnancy?

Choosing to use a surrogate for your family might be the difference between a childless family and one filled with the laughter, joys and the excitement of a child/children. With such an increase of infertility issues among childbearing age women, a surrogate’s unique pregnancy could be the ONLY option and could help your dreams come true...two feet at a time!

Why Choose a Gestational Surrogate?

In 2005, Jim and Patty stepped cautiously through the front door of The Center For Egg Options Illinois. After nearly 6 years of infertility, 4 miscarriages, multiple unsuccessful ART cycles, and 2 failed donated ovum cycles they had realized that it was time to assess their other family building options. They came to The Center For Egg Options the day after meeting with a local adoption agency and were going to spend some time evaluating which direction they would take. The look of desperation and innate sadness from their overwhelming losses and the emptiness of their arms where they had hoped to be holding their growing family members was unavoidable. They were presented with the option of gestational surrogacy. They were cautious to start again but became comfortable with the idea especially after meeting the team at The Center For Egg Options Illinois and moreso after meeting a prospective surrogate – who then became the surrogate carrier for their now 6 month old baby Isabelle.

Who are Gestational Surrogates?

Gestational Surrogates have had at least one pregnancy, have at least one child that she is raising in her home, is between the ages of 21 and 35, is a non-smoker, lives in a stable household, has reliable transportation, is not receiving state financial assistance (welfare), and has not been arrested. The Center For Egg Options runs a full criminal background check on all of our Gestational Surrogate candidates and their husband or partner, as well as, a urine drug screen, STD screening, HIV, Hepatitis, (full female medical exam) including an ultrasound to look at her uterus.

Why work with an agency?

It's a desperate, scary world out there. It has never been clearer how important an intermediary is than with a Surrogacy arrangement. We act as your intermediary until pregnancy occurs and as your liason to further support the relationship you build with the surrogate as her pregnancy develops.
